What is point horror?
Imagine a shelf full of spooky, suspenseful books with shiny, pulpy covers just begging to be read. Point Horror was THE thing in the '90s when you were too cool for Goosebumps.
These books were all about giving you that deliciously creepy feeling without being too over-the-top scary. They were a mix of mystery, suspense, and occasionally - the supernatural. Each book had its own unique plot, but they all revolved around teens getting caught up in spooky situations – haunted houses, sinister secrets, and a lot of prank phone calls.
meet the hosts
Besties for almost 20 years, Becky Darke and Jill Nolan created the podcast in 2019 following a shared memory of the Point Horror books from their younger years. Would they be as good as they remembered? They decided to find out by exploring a different book from the series each episode. Jill and Becky discovered each book was a perfect time capsule, for better or worse, transporting us all back to a simpler time of landline phones, hanging at the mall, dated sexist bullshit and more.
The hosts contextualise the release dates of the books with features Becky’s Box Office and Lipgloss Jill’s Nostalgic Number Ones, exploring what was in cinemas and the charts in a fun and informative trip down memory lane.
